Which wooden stair tread do you need?

The tread takes the daily footfall, so the choice of timber determines both the look and the lifespan of the staircase. At Kamik Space we supply solid wood treads in three finishes that behave very differently.

Oak, steamed beech and tropical hardwood

Oak is the most versatile option: pronounced grain, warm tone and a hardness that copes well with heavy domestic traffic. Steamed beech gives a more even, pinkish colour thanks to the steam treatment, ideal in Nordic or minimalist interiors where a discreet grain is preferred. Tropical hardwood is the densest and most stable against changes in humidity, the logical choice for exposed staircases or heavy-use areas.

Sizes and how to work them out

Our treads come in standard formats such as 40x300x1000 mm, thick enough to be fitted onto a steel frame, a timber stringer or directly onto masonry. Before ordering, measure the actual width of the opening and decide whether you want the tread flush or with a nosing. In Spain, the building code sets a minimum going of 28 cm and a rise of between 13 and 18.5 cm for domestic staircases, worth checking if you are rebuilding the whole flight.

Fitting and care

Let the pieces acclimatise in the room for 48 hours before fitting to avoid movement later on. An oil or polyurethane varnish protects the surface from wear, and on busy staircases an anti-slip strip along the nosing is well worth adding.
